Magical Storage Items: By Caz

Fellow wizards, I have made a fantastic discovery, a radical improvement on our now archaic, yet long cherished means of encoding the mystical sigils and formulae of our Art. By infusing the crystalline matrix of rare stones with mnemonic enhancement, you create stones that remember. Controlling these memories is the role of the eidetic runes forged in the model I hold here of a gold substrate and topaz elements. These discoveries will free our kind from the drudgery and constant worry of massive tomes. Fireproof, hard as stone and obedient to our words, my invention will protect your hard won spells in a manner far superior to warded towers or extradimensional pockets. A revolution is coming, Brothers and Sisters. Wizarding kind will be free.Xagyg the Warlock; Annual Meeting of the United Brotherhood of Wizards and Sorcerers Local 216.

The world traveling adventurer has a need for every possible bit of gear, but can only carry so much with them. When added to the veritable haystack of gear and supplies, the unenviable weight of bags of coins and bulk of rare antiquities slow travel to a crawl. Many groups look more like merchant caravans when traveling back from adventures in forgotten ruins. Some of the magic items detailed below alleviate the burden of weight. Others provide unique places to store everything from voluminous magical formulae to favored pets.

Know that nothing is as it appears. A simple key may unlock treasure in any room. Weapons can vanish or reappear in a moment's notice. And never assume someone has run out of ammunition, their sash may be abundant or their quiver efficient.

Abundant Sash

When worn around the waist, this flamboyant colored sash reveals a number of nondimensional spaces ideal for storing weapons, ammunition and other objects commonly carried by religious and mystical characters. The first space is small and seems to be filled with miniature pockets or sleeves; it can be filled with as many as 20 potion vials. The second space can hold up to sixty objects the size and weight of a sling bullet or shuriken. The third space is larger and has space for 15 flasks or similar items. The last space, nearest the tie, is quite large and can accommodate five objects the size of a staff or mace. Any object stored in the abundant sash may be withdrawn by the wearer as if from a normal quiver or scabbard. None of the spaces are accessible unless the abundant sash is being worn.

Moderate conjuration; CL 9th; Craft Wondrous Item, secret chest; Price 1,800 gp; Weight 1 lb.

Tablet of Scriven Memories

Many wizards have labored for years beneath the weight of their mystical tomes and spellbooks. The Tablet of Scriven Memories is about the size of a hand mirror and made of ivory, jade, or silver, and decorated with gemstones and gold around the edges. The magic of the Tablet holds four hundred pages of spells. As a boon, the Tablet copies mystical writings quickly, storing the contents of an entire spellbook in a week. A number of command words control the Tablet's functions. One presents any spell stored to the owner. The second shows the names of all spells stored. The third prepares the Tablet for copying. The fourth erases any specific spell (as if by an Erase spell). And the last purges all spells (again, as if by an Erase spell).

Note: While the tablet can copy spells from any spellbook, it does not provide the user with knowledge of any spells copied from another wizard's spellbook.

Moderate transmutation; CL 7th; Craft Wondrous Item, caster must have the Spell Master Feat, erase, shrink item; Price 6,400 gp; Weight 1 lb

Boulderskin

The dwarven race has always depended on the defenses provided by their mountain homes. In the Boulderskin +2 tower shields, they carry those defenses with them. In the hands of any non-dwarf, it is as heavy and cumbersome as a tower shield. Dwarves may use the Boulderskin as if it were a large shield. When in a rocky or stone environment (including underground), the shield provides a +5 enhancement bonus to hide checks (do not count the shield's armor check penalty on these hide checks). On the inner surface of the shield are a dozen clasps. When the shield bearer attaches a crossbow (a heavy crossbow takes up two clasp spaces) or a light throwing weapon (such as javelins, throwing axes or light hammers) to the clasp, the weapon melds into the inner surface of the shield, becoming weightless. The melded weapons are available as if drawing them from a normal sheath or scabbard. Cases of bolts can also be attached in this way. Finally, and most important, dwarves using the shield may see and make ranged attacks through it and retain full cover.

Strong transmutation; CL 6th; Craft Magic Arms and Armor, crafter must be a dwarf, blink, clairvoyance, shrink item; Price 12,980 gp; Weight 45 lb. (15 lb.)

Miserly Key

Obtaining wealth and protecting it are driving goals for most adventurers. The Miserly Key helps with both. First, when turned to the left in any lock and a command word spoken, the Miserly Key detects precious metals and gems. The key will chime if it detects any significant wealth (500 gp or more) within 20 feet of the lock. Second, when turned to the right in the lock of any door and a second command word spoken, the Miserly Key opens that door onto a nondimensional space that contains a 10' x 10' room with a counting desk, and a number of trunks and shelves. The only air in the room so created is that which enters when the door is opened. It contains enough air to supply one Medium creature or two Small creatures for 20 minutes. Each miserly key opens on its own particular nondimensional space. If a bag of holding is carried within the room, a rift to the Astral Plane is torn in that place. Both the bag and the key are sucked into the void and forever lost.

Moderate conjuration; CL 16th; Craft Wondrous Item, locate object, plane shift; Price 26,000 gp.

Bravo Bracers

These thick leather and steel armguards can hold a deadly secret. When worn, the user may command any item he holds into a non-dimensional space. Any time later, as a free action, he may have the weapon spring into being in his hands as if he had drawn it using the Quick Draw feat. In addition, the bracers give the wearer the ability to sneak attack for 2d6 extra damage as if they were a 3rd level rogue. A rogue or other character capable of sneak attacks gains three effective levels when they use the bracers for sneak attacks.
Note: the wearer may store two two-handed weapons at once.

Faint transmutation; CL 6th; crafter must have the sneak attack class feature, Craft Wondrous Item, shrink item; Price 16,000 gp.

Peacable Passage

Treasured by those who have animal companions, this large embroidered cloth serves as a portal to an extradimensional space. The space provides a natural habitat for animals, with air, food, water and room to move about for as many as eight Small animals. A Medium animal counts as two Small or smaller animals, a Large animal as four, a Huge animal as eight. Only animals can be placed into a Peacable Passage. It requires a full round action to place an animal into the passage. Releasing them is a move action.
Moderate Conjuration; CL 7th; Craft Wondrous Item, daylight, plant growth, Summon Nature's Ally 1; Price 12,000 gp.
