|
|
We're firing up the Animalball Deadpool machine for 2008!
Anyone can get in. Just submit a draft list to me by email or private message by midnight on December 22, 2007.
Here's the basic rules:
THE DRAFT
Everyone submits their draft list to me by the deadline. Once I have all the lists, I will determine a random draft order. The player with the first pick gets the first available celebrity off of their draft list. The second person gets the first available celebrity off of their draft list. Etc. The draft will continue in rounds until every player has 10 selections or has run out of choices on their draft list.
Participants from last year's Deadpool may choose to forfeit their first round pick in order to retain a "Legacy Pick" from last year's roster.
WHO COUNTS AS A CELEBRITY?
People submitted on your list must be celebrities (as a group, we will define what constitutes "celebrity." If there is a dispute, we'll put it to a vote of all participating members, but generally anyone whose obit is likely to show up on Google news is considered a celebrity. That's pretty wide open.)
The only other qualification is that the celebrity must have a verifiable birthday. Thus, while Saddam Hussein would have made a great choice while he was alive, he was never an available choice, because his birthday was unknown.
HOW MANY NAMES SHOULD BE ON MY DRAFT LIST?
I recommend having at least 5 names on your list for each person participating in the pool (if it looks like we'll have 10 players, you should submit a list of at least 50). There will be rules for people to fill out their lists in case they don't submit enough the first time, as well as rules for people who want to join late (through the first week of January only).
Right now, about 12 people have expressed interest in being in this year's pool. I don't know if that will translate to 7 actual players or 40. This is our first year with submitting draft lists, so your guess is as good as mine.
SCORING
If a celebrity on your list dies during 2008*, you receive a number of points equal to 100 minus the celeb's age at the time of death (with a minimum 5 pts).
Whoever has the most points at midnight on December 31, 2008 is the winner.
[*The Deadpool 2008 will actually run from the deadline for the draft through the end of calendar year 2008.] _________________ When you're in your little room, and you're working on something good... but if it's really good, you're gonna need a bigger room. I'm interested. I think I might try to get my girlfriend to help me. She stays up on her celebrity gossip. _________________ how I get here? |

| What's the limit on the number of people you can put on your list? And what's the penalty for incorrect guesses? |

You put as many people on your list as you want, and then I will put the lists into the draft process: i.e. Player one gets the 1st available player on his list, Player 2 gets the 1st available player off her list, etc. Until everyone has 10 selections.
During the year, if any of your 10 die, you get points for them. Whoever has the most points at the end wins.
So there is no penalty for wrong guesses... other than you don't get points for them.
For example, here's the 2006 lists, and here's 2007.
We used to make a big deal of all the players getting together for a big online chat and then actually drafting our 10 each right there, but the process is cumbersome and we think it's keeping people away. Therefore, everyone just gives me their top 50 or 80 or whatever, and I'll go ahead and run the draft automatically off of the lists. _________________ When you're in your little room, and you're working on something good... but if it's really good, you're gonna need a bigger room. Any time you want. The only danger of going early is that there might be breaking news on some celeb who is sick, but otherwise, there's no harm in it. _________________ When you're in your little room, and you're working on something good... but if it's really good, you're gonna need a bigger room. No, what is this draft pool you speak of? All I see in Mike's rules above are that we submit a big list which gets pared down to a unique list of 10. Is this the draft pool or is there a general pool that all names must come from? _________________ <- And you think you feel bloated and gassy |

I thought we decided to do away with the draft pool so as to avoid certain unpleasantries like the Coretta Scott King affair. _________________ When you're in your little room, and you're working on something good... but if it's really good, you're gonna need a bigger room. Instead, after lists are posted, if anyone wants to challenge a particular name, then we'll put it to a vote of all participants. _________________ When you're in your little room, and you're working on something good... but if it's really good, you're gonna need a bigger room. The deadline is almost here!
I moved the deadline to this coming Saturday (Dec 22nd) at midnight US Central Standard Time.
I also updated the originating post in this thread to better explain the deadpool and the draft process.
Only about a dozen people have expressed interest so far, but anyone can participate. Just give me a list by Saturday. _________________ When you're in your little room, and you're working on something good... but if it's really good, you're gonna need a bigger room. And this violates the Deadpool Players Code, but I'll give some resources for anyone who's interested in making this more of a fair fight.
A couple good places to start are Dead or Alive, and The Rotten Deadpool. If you find other deadpools on the net, they can be helpful. Everyone has different rules, but any site that will list their most popular picks can give you a good idea of what other people are thinking. _________________ When you're in your little room, and you're working on something good... but if it's really good, you're gonna need a bigger room.
