I like them all! Ash rats are cool and I too have used them in the past. I think a monster is only as retarded as the GM using it. A clever GM can make any monster fun, creepy, dangerous, interesting, threatening etc, etc. _________________ Justin the Big

I've used a few of those critters pretty effectively in games in the past. The last time I used a Grell, the entire party was freaked out.
What they didn't really take into account with the demi-lich is that they have spellcasting abilities. Maybe not as uber as a full lich, but still not to be totally discounted.
Pity they didn't have the tarrasque listed, that was one of the dumbest things I've ever heard of. |

| I can't believe they didn't mention the "Wolf-in-Sheep's Clothing". And wasn't there something like a Protein Polymorpher? |

It's a funny line for me to walk. On the one hand, yeah you want a game to be balanced, and therefor monsters to have an appropriate reason to be lurking in a Dungeon. An environment so to speak, right? But on the other hand killing weird shit is always fun right? _________________

Killing weird stuff is always good - remember, the fantastic world is not Earth. You mess up the environment as much as you need so that everybody has fun.

Yeah, but I don't have fun if the monsters are just "weird, impossible, illogical, nonsensical monsters." A five-legged lion thing that rolls around? Destroys my suspension of disbelief. A dragon, okay, done properly, I can manage, but most of our players just won't handle blatantly illogical things. The fantastic world isn't earth, but it has its own physics, and we expect things to obey them. _________________ "I am a strong advocate for free thought on all subjects, yet it appears to me (whether rightly or wrongly) that direct arguments against Christianity and theism produce hardly any effect on the public; and freedom of thought is best promoted by the gradual illumination of men's minds, which follows from the advance of science." And that's the fine line you have to walk. Obviously each group of players will draw their own lines-and there is no wrong line, just wrong for you, and your group. _________________

Oh no. A five legged lionball is just Wrong. Note the capital. As in a crime against humanity and sanity. That's wrong for everybody, because I deem it so. And so sayeth the Lord. _________________

Isn't the lionball one of those critters that early explorers claimed was real and people just shook their heads and believed?
I believe in Owlball. _________________ A computer processor trying to calculate pathfinding for 100 dwarves, 3 goblin ambush parties, and 4000 kittens generates more than 25,000 BTUs of heat. The dwarves had found all the energy they would ever need. |
